Do you italicize in an essay the names of characters from a book?

im writing an essay in MLA format and I cannot remember. I know you italicize the book's title but what about the character's names from that book?

    Hi Alyssa. No, you don’t usually put character names in italics. In fact, the guidelines for MLA format say:”Use italics throughout your essay for the titles of longer works and, only when absolutely necessary to provide emphasis.”For instance, if you are introducing an unusual word (say a technical term) for the first time, you might italicise it the first time it is used (although only the first time).
